John “Greyhound” Maxwell - Guitar, vocals, mandolin.

A recent transplant to Port Townsend, John “Greyhound” Maxwell has been getting a lot of attention since retiring from bus driving in March of 2016. His debut solo CD, “Blues For Evangeline” was honored by placing in the Final 5 in the Best Self Produced CD category at the 2016 Memphis International Blues Challenge.

John has opened for Maria Muldaur, Ruthie Foster, Ramblinʼ Jack Elliot,Jon Cleary, Studebaker John, Gatemouth Brown,Susan Tedeschi,St. Louis legend Henry Townsend and others. Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records: “He plays with very good fluidity and taste, and some nice slide. His vocals are pleasantly lacking in fake black-isms that are the bane of ʻwhite bluesmenʼ. Even better, he sings the meaning of the words and understands that the story of the lyrics is vital.” Maria Muldaur: “John is the finest bluesman Iʼve heard in a long, long time.” Golden Gate Blues Society: “Maxwellʼs dexterous finger work, marvelous slide, and heartfelt, deep-baritone vocals prove him to be a major talent on the Bay Area roots scene.
